Matthew Greeley Rivas (b. Brooklyn, 1988) is a Brooklyn-based artist working in film and video.
As a fifth generation New Yorker and the son of a Nicaraguan immigrant mother, Matthew is deeply invested in the history of NYC as it intersects with American melting pot mentality that supported ideologies and commerce in the foundation of one of the world’s greatest cities.
He received his BFA in Film/Video from CalArts in 2010, where he was mentored by media artist Janice Tanaka.
Matthew has been supporting film/video projects for over a decade. He honed his editing skills at the fashion creative agency, Starworks Group, then began a permanent position at Condé Nast as a Video Producer and Editor.
He became known within the advertising industry for his ability to create a sizzle, or ‘spirit film,’ that is provocative, compelling, and full of energy. This led him to travel the world and produce branded content campaigns for magazines including Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, and Condé Nast Traveler.
In 2020, Matthew opened RAZOR SOFT, a full-service production company, whose Clio award winning work specializes in provocative advertising.
In 2022, Matthew completed two years of training in the acting technique of Sanford Meisner at the globally recognized William Esper Studio. This experience expanded his understanding of character development and script writing and primed him to begin writing his narrative debut. Greeley’s work focuses on explorations of New York history, urban life, family dynamics and legacy.
